WaterMark Tour Switzerland

Overview:

ST. GALLEN
Where Heritage and Craftsmanship Endure

St. Gallen is the quiet heart of Eastern Switzerland, a city woven from textiles, history, and understated grace. Its abbey library, cobbled streets, and Baroque facades tell of centuries of culture and creation.

With Watermark, St. Gallen reveals its finer side: private archive tours, artisan ateliers, and countryside escapes into Appenzell’s rolling green hills. It’s where tradition meets taste, and every detail feels handcrafted.

When to Visit:

ST. GALLEN AT ITS BEST

Autumn (September–November)
The Abbey quarter glows like a lantern and the old town smells of roasted chestnuts and alpine cheese. Harvest dinners, design pop-ups, and mellow jazz nights fill stone-vaulted rooms. By mid-October the city surges with its beloved agricultural fair; by late November, Christmas lights lace the oriels and alleys for a storybook finish.

Winter (December–February)
This is Switzerland’s coziest season done right: snowy rooftops, cathedral concerts, fondue salons, and spa suites that look out toward the Appenzell hills. December is festive and intimate; January brings light art, chamber music, and quiet culture; February stirs with carnival brass bands and masked night walks through the lanes.

Spring (March–May)
St. Gallen wakes with fairs, artisan weekends, and a spring expo that turns the halls into a playground of food, craft, and lifestyle. Trails dry on the three local hills, cafés spill onto sunlit corners, and the year’s first street-food happenings return to the riverfront.

Summer (June–August)
Long, easy days: open-air concerts in courtyards, world-class rowing on the Rotsee just over the ridge, and one of Europe’s great music festivals in a green valley a few minutes outside town. Add buskers, beer gardens, mountain sunsets on the Säntis, and warm nights under the oriels.

Special Events and Festivals:

2025

  • OLMA — Swiss Fair for Agriculture & Food — mid to late October
The city’s heartbeat: animals, produce, tastings, and alpine traditions with evening concerts. We weave a gourmet trail through the halls and a private farm-to-table dinner.

  • St. Gallen Christmas Market (Old Town) — late November to December 23
Twinkling lanes beneath historic bay windows, artisan stalls, and candlelit fondue alcoves. Add a blue-hour photo walk and mulled-wine lake stop.

  • Advent & Abbey Concerts — December
Choirs and chamber programs in the UNESCO Abbey precinct. We secure the best-sound seats and a post-concert wine salon.

  • New Year’s Eve in the Old Town — December 31
Cozy, curated: a progressive dinner across two vaulted restaurants, midnight champagne on a terrace, and live jazz to close.

2026

  • OFFA — Spring Fair St. Gallen — April
A lively spring showcase of food, design, and local craft. Our route strings tastings, maker meet-ups, and a private kitchen demo.

  • Wortlaut — St. Gallen Literature Festival — April
Readings, talks, and intimate salons in quirky venues. Pair with a bookseller after-hours and a writers’ supper.

  • Street Food Festival St. Gallen (Insel & Riverfront) — spring/summer edition
Dozens of top trucks and pop-ups; our “no-lines” tasting loop hits the best in under two hours and ends with dessert on a private terrace.

  • Buskers St. Gallen — early summer
Street artists, acoustic sets, and pop-up bars across the lanes. Balcony vantage points and a guided artist route available.

One of Europe’s iconic valley festivals: main-stage headliners, indie darlings, and late-night sets. Upgrade to VIP decks, fast access, and a private host.

  • St. Gallen Tattoo — July
International military bands and precision showpieces in a spectacular arena setting. Premium seats, rehearsal peeks, and backstage hospitality.

  • Lake & Mountain Nights (Säntis | Hoher Kasten) — July–August (select dates)
After-hours cableways, alpenglow aperitifs, and stargazing with an astronomer—finish with a midnight ride down and chauffeured return.

  • Cultural Summer — Courtyard & Abbey Square Stages — June–August
Classical and jazz evenings under open skies. Reserved chairs, pre-show aperitifs, and a late-night digestif walk through the Abbey quarter.

  • Open Wine Cellars — St. Gallen & Appenzell — late spring / early summer
Country estates open their doors; we build a driver-guided tasting loop with a farm cheese pairing.

  • Museumsnacht St. Gallen — early autumn
A single ticket, many doors: curated routes through design, history, and art—with pop-up performances en route.

  • Herbst Fairs & Harvest Tables — September–October
Alpine cheeses, cured meats, and orchard ciders—our slow afternoon becomes a convivial long-table dinner at sunset.

  • OLMA — Swiss Fair for Agriculture & Food — October
Book early for private tastings, animal encounters before opening, and a hosted evening through the liveliest halls.

  • St. Gallen Christmas Market & Winter Lights — late November to December 23
